Privately Funded

Here is how to employ Liz to deliver physiotherapy for your child.

It is with regret that I am currently unable to accept new privately funded clients who live outside of the Warrington area. This is due to the very high demand for physiotherapy services. Has your child got difficulties in the way they move or delay in their development?

I offer a wide range of children’s physiotherapy services to meet you and your child’s needs. The process begins with an assessment, followed by treatment sessions if required. Treatment sessions may be offered weekly; fortnightly; as occasional reviews; or as blocks of treatment sessions over the period of a week or two.

In depth initial assessment

The initial assessment usually takes place in your home, an environment where your child feels safe and relaxed, at a time that best suits their routine. It will take up to an hour and a half. I will ask questions relating to your pregnancy, the birth and your child’s medical history, before observing and examining your child. Children are generally not keen on “performing on demand” thus the assessment is generally done through play where possible. I will then discuss my findings with you and give you ideas of how I feel physiotherapy may benefit your child.

The Initial Assessment Form is below. Please have a look at it prior to my visit to be prepared for the questions, and to have an opportunity to look out documents you may need for details. Filling in the Initial Assessment Form prior to my arrival will save time for other parts of the assessment and treatment.

Treatment Sessions.

The initial assessment may reveal minor difficulties that you may be able to rectify with simple home exercises, a change in your play routine, or in cases of some walking problems advice on appropriate footwear. For some children treatment sessions will be required.

Treatment sessions will take place either in your home, at school, in nursery, or in a local gym or hydrotherapy pool. They usually last for an hour, the frequency and duration of the sessions will be based on our agreed assessment of their needs – for some children this may be a couple of sessions to follow up advice given during the assessment, for others it may be weekly/fortnightly/monthly sessions, or for some an intense block of daily sessions. We will agree goals and outcomes, and regularly review these to ensure your child is making progress.

Your child may have a team of support staff at home, or assistants at school – part of my role could be to train them in therapeutic handling techniques and/or how to carry out the home exercise programme.

For children with significant difficulties/long term conditions part of my role would include for example – liaison with other professionals involved in their care; writing reports including advice for school; advising on appropriate equipment and arrange assessments.
